In this sense, “That Awkward Moment” doesn’t pull its punches, but it’s a lot more than just a string of dick and fart jokes. That hook will only last for about a third of the film. This movie shows guys in their vulnerable stages, during which obnoxious behavior becomes a defense mechanism.

While you can hardly ever call a comedy original, this movie by writer-director Tom Gormican is just riddled with clichés and lame dick jokes. While Gormican does manage to keep the dialogues well-paced thanks to a solid cast, it turns out that even that isn’t enough.
From the outside That Awkward Moment looks like a typical, throwaway comedy but it has heart and an indie spirit that turn it into something altogether different, something that deserves to be seen.

That Awkward Moment is an incredibly repulsive and execrable movie, and even though I seriously considered leaving the cinema various times while I was watching it, I didn’t do that in order to evaluate all the things this film did wrong. Or, better said, all the things it didn’t even attempt to do well.
